This is an interesting wine. A mix of syrah (56%), pinot and zinfandel. It's unusual, but pleasing. There's some sweetness at first but it blends right in with the meal.

Very smooth with a fruity nose. Deep ruby red color. Did a very good job pairing the fettucini Carbonara at the Swiss hotel in Sonoma (see attached photo)
In a few words, this is a strawberry cheesecake in wine form, so to speak.
One of my favorite wineries in Napa, the Chateau Montelena Zinfandel 2009 is a great companion to any meal. This one we had with meat fondue. Perfect.
This wine is what I would call a bold Read more
And the last Zin of the night is this bold 2009 Zin, Frog's Leap. It has a strong strawberry aroma. It's well balance and bold (stings the tip of the tongue a bit). It thought it was the best of the night (but who knows, after 4 pours, my senses Read more

Interesting! I'm drawn to wines that have strawberry aromas and flavors, perhaps because they don't seem as common to their raspberry and cherry cousins. I'll have to check this one out.

You should, definitely. It's not an expensive wine, so it's worth it. Are you into Zinfandels?

Third Zin of the night, as part of the blind taste last Saturday. This is a bold wine. Big, high alcohol. It has some fruit aroma, but is not very fruity. It produces a slight tingly sensation on the palate at first that goes away with more sips. Good overall.
This was the second Zin in the blind taste. I thought it had a lighter color than usual, but still pretty vivid. I noticed the presence of faint but pleasant spices. A decent wine throughout.
This was part of a blind taste from my wine club. I thought this wine had a high content of alcohol at first. It had a faint smell and was very fruity on the palate, almost sweet. It's not bad for an under $20 wine.
This vertical tasting included the 2006, 2007, 2008. We tasted them from older to newer and the results were a bit surprising. The 2006 aroma was described as "musky" and "funky" and the flavor was flat. I thought it was going to open up but it didn't. 2007 and 2008 Read more

Nice! Another vertical review! Lose these! 2006 was a year with a lot of rain, so some wineries harvested earlier, some later and the differences can be big!

Someone brought an already-open bottle of this to our holiday festivities and I was surprised at how good this wine was. Nice nose of strawberry and raspberry, leading with a honey edge once sipped, giving way to a light, refreshing watermelon and strawberry finish. Seems like it would be particularly Read more
Thimbleberry nose, soft mouthfeel, flavors of blackberry and prune, slight peppery finish. Amazingly reserved for a California red with a label that declares "Beastly Old Vines."

Sounds promising!

It's not bad! And the price of $7.99 makes it so you don't mind giving it a try.
